Just my conscience talking.

It was a nice day for walking. I walked from home over to the Galleria. Next week the shuttle will be gone and the trolleys will be back. I know I am lazy and won't walk as often when I get to ride the Green Line again.

It's that time of month where I can splurge on myself. I was at the Galleria to buy a microwave. (Thanks, dee_cee. Yours lasted this long, but I got tired of no turntable when my Lean Cuisine Swedish Meatballs were hot and the sauce was not.) I wandered into the Apple store to look at stuff as I tend to do, but this time I found myself looking at tablets. I bought a Wacom Graphire 4x5. It's not as fancy as the bigger tablets, but then it's not as pricey either.

What's above is an experiment in re-aquainting myself with Photoshop. I used a non-photo blue pencil and a Pigma Micron 05 black pen. Scanned it in as a B&W picture, then in Photoshop changed the mode to RGB Color and started to play around. Once I got the coloring I wanted, I brought it over to Comic Life where I added the text. Exported it back to Photoshop. Uploaded that jpg. Realized it was too big for a monitor viewing. Went back to Photoshop and made a scaled down version. Uploaded the smaller version. Then over to this LJ entry.

I really should learn to use Painter, but when I booted it up it looks like it was the first time I ever tried it and the serial number I had wasn't a match. Go figure.

There was a program called "Dabbler" that I wish I still had tonight. Basically, it was Painter light, a simplified version of it. The beauty part of the program was the interface which made it look like you were actually working on a desk with drawers, and in the drawers were all your tools. It made it a lot easier to switch back and forth than Photoshop.

I say, "wish...tonight" because I know trying to get that program would be a step back, not forward in my my digital artistic learning. I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to try to take a Photoshop course at an adult learning center, but given everything I do is two dimensional and not all too complicated, would I be better off buying some "for Dummies" book and teaching myself?

There's something to be said for being a nerd at home on a Friday night.

I came across this software on the Apple site called "Comic Life". I created this page without reading the instructions. The images are just some cartoons I already had on the hard drive. The images are lousy, I know, but you have to keep in mind that they are scaled heavily. I can experiment more with some new cartoons.

This is from the freeware version. I think this will be worth buying. Yeah, it's cheesy looking, but it'll save me a load of time.
